In Singapore, things can quickly become stifling when your air conditioner won’t turn on. This article will help you stay cool even if your air conditioner is malfunctioning. Here are eight common causes and solutions for why your air conditioner won’t turn on.

AC is not Turningss

1) Examine the thermostat.

The simplest cause for your AC not turning on is a malfunctioning thermostat. First, verify that your thermostat is turned on, set to “cool,” and a few degrees colder than the average inside temperature. Batteries may also need to be replaced.

The thermostat’s temperature sensor may be incorrect if it does not resolve the issue. A thermostat not reading the desired temperature might prevent the air conditioner from activating. After determining the defective thermostat, it is time to replace it. If you cannot establish which thermostat is ideal for your home, consult an Expert for assistance.

2) Check the air filter.

Change your air filter every 30 to 60 days at least. You should change them more frequently based on the number of pets and people in your home and the air pollution levels in your neighbourhood. A clogged air filter can hinder airflow, causing your air conditioner to freeze and fail to operate.

If your air filter is dusty or you cannot recall the last time you replaced it, it is time to replace it. If your air conditioner has frozen, wait for it to defrost before turning it back on after replacing the filter.

3) Check the circuit breaker.

Access the electrical panel in your home and check to see whether the air conditioner’s circuit breaker has tripped. If the switch is in the “OFF” position, the circuit breaker has been tripped. Turn the circuit breaker to the “ON” position to remedy this issue.

If your air conditioner continues to trip the breaker after addressing this issue, you may have a more significant issue. You should contact a technician or a specialist to prevent damage to your house or air conditioner.

4) Examine the indoor off switch.

Commonly confused with a light switch, the indoor shutdown switch may have been accidentally flipped if your air conditioner doesn’t turn on. Often, these switches are located near the boiler, in a closet, crawlspace, or attic. After locating the off switch, verify that it is in the “OFF” position. If so, it must be turned back on. This switch should always be labelled to prevent anyone from accidentally turning it off.

5) Examine the outside off switch.

If you or someone else has recently worked on your air conditioner, the exterior shutdown switch may have been deactivated as a precaution. Then, locate the exterior off switch, which should be close to your air conditioner. Just flip the switch if it is in the “OFF” position to activate the air conditioner.

6) Locate the reset button on the air conditioner.

When your air conditioner would not turn on, you may need to just reset it. First, determine whether your air conditioning machine has a reset button. If you can locate the reset button, press it before restarting the air conditioner. If you cannot locate the reset button, manually reset your air conditioner by turning off the thermostat for five to ten minutes and then turning it back on.
